Free YouTube Video Summarizer

Paste a YouTube link and get the gist in seconds: a one-paragraph TL;DR, the key points, and chapters with clickable timestamps. Free, no account.

How to summarize a YouTube video

  1. Copy the video link. Use the Share button on YouTube or copy the address bar. Regular videos, Shorts, and live replays all work.
  2. Paste it above. The summary is written in your language by default. Pick any of 15 languages to summarize a video in a language you don't speak.
  3. Read, jump, or keep it. Skim the TL;DR and key points, click a chapter to jump to that moment on YouTube, then copy or download the summary or the full transcript.

What's in the summary

TL;DR

One paragraph that says what the video is about and where it lands, so you can decide in ten seconds whether to watch.

Key points

The claims, steps, numbers, and takeaways worth remembering, in the order the video makes them.

Chapters with timestamps

The video split into sections with a title and a line on each. Click a timestamp to open YouTube at that exact moment.

Common questions

How do I summarize a YouTube video?

Paste the video's link into the box above and click Summarize video. In a few seconds you get a TL;DR, the key points, and chapters with timestamps. The full transcript is one click away in the Transcript tab.

Is this YouTube summarizer free?

Yes. There's no account, no payment, and no watermark. Each browser can summarize up to 30 videos a day, shared with the free YouTube transcript tool.

How does the AI summary work?

The tool reads the video's captions, including the automatic captions YouTube generates, and an AI model writes the summary from them. It doesn't watch the video, so on-screen text and visuals that are never spoken aren't included.

Can I summarize a video in another language?

Yes. Choose the summary language before you click Summarize video. A Japanese or Spanish video can be summarized in English, and the other way round, in any of 15 languages.

Why can't some videos be summarized?

The summary is written from captions. Videos with captions turned off, videos too new for automatic captions, music with no speech, and private or age-restricted videos can't be read. Videos longer than four hours aren't summarized.

Can Wave summarize my own meetings and lectures?

Yes. That's what the Wave app does. It records meetings, phone calls, lectures, and in-person conversations on iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows, and Apple Watch, and gives you a transcript with speaker labels plus an AI summary for every recording.
