Your browser will ask to use your microphone. Speak naturally; say “comma”, “period”, or “new line” to add punctuation.

Wave never receives your audio. Your browser sends it to its own speech service (Google in Chrome, Microsoft in Edge, Apple in Safari) and the text stays in this tab.
It uses the speech recognition built into your browser, which is accurate for clear speech from one person close to the mic. Accuracy drops with background noise, strong accents the model hasn't learned, or several people talking. For recordings of meetings or interviews with more than one speaker, the free transcription tool labels each speaker and is the better fit.
Wave never receives or stores your audio or your text. To turn speech into text, your browser sends the audio to its vendor's speech recognition service (Google for Chrome, Microsoft for Edge, Apple for Safari), which returns the words. That vendor's privacy policy applies to that step. The text itself stays in this browser tab until you copy or download it, and it's gone when you close the tab.
Chrome on Windows, Mac, ChromeOS, and Android; Microsoft Edge; and Safari on Mac, iPhone, and iPad. Firefox doesn't support speech recognition, and Brave, Opera, and in-app browsers (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok) usually block it. If the mic doesn't start, open the page in Chrome, Edge, or Safari.
Pick from 39 languages and regional variants, including English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, and Portuguese. Exactly which languages work depends on your browser. The language defaults to this page's language, and you can switch it before you start.
Say the punctuation mark: “comma”, “period” or “full stop”, “question mark”, “exclamation mark”, “colon”, “semicolon”, “new line”, or “new paragraph”. Some browsers also add punctuation on their own. If you need to dictate the word “period” itself, switch off spoken punctuation.
It's free with no account and no time limit. Browsers end a recognition session after a long silence; the tool restarts it automatically while you're dictating, so you can keep talking. Press pause whenever you need a break.
