Meeting Notes Template

A simple meeting notes template for everyday meetings: a one-line summary, the key points, what was decided and what happens next. Lighter than formal minutes, so you can actually keep it up meeting after meeting. Paste it into Notion, download it for Word or Google Docs, or copy the Markdown.

Or skip the template: upload the recording to the minutes generator

Wave AI's free meeting minutes generator transcribes the recording with speaker labels and fills in this structure for you: attendees, discussion, decisions and action items with owners. You can also paste a transcript from Zoom, Teams or Google Meet. No account needed.

When to use it

  • Team syncs, check-ins and working sessions
  • Notes for yourself, when nobody needs formal minutes
  • Meetings where the outcome matters more than who said what
  • Building a running page of notes for a recurring meeting in Notion or Docs

How to fill it in

  1. Write the purpose first. One line on why the meeting exists. It keeps the notes, and the meeting, on track.
  2. Note key points as they happen. Short bullets for what matters, not everything that was said. Group them by topic afterwards if it helps.
  3. Separate decisions from discussion. Pull anything the group agreed into Decisions so it isn't lost in the bullets.
  4. End with next steps. Turn every follow-up into a to-do with a name next to it, and share the notes the same day.

Notion-friendly Markdown

Paste this into a Notion page and the headings, lists, checkboxes and tables become Notion blocks. It also works in Obsidian, GitHub, Confluence and any Markdown editor.

Common questions

What is the difference between meeting notes and meeting minutes?

Minutes are the official record: attendance, agenda, decisions and action items, written to be filed and shared. Notes are lighter and usually informal: the key points and next steps. If your meeting needs a record, use the meeting minutes template instead.

How do I use this template in Notion?

Copy the Notion-friendly Markdown on this page and paste it into a Notion page. Headings, bullets and the checklist convert to Notion blocks automatically. Duplicate the page for each meeting, or save it as a database template.

How do you take good meeting notes?

Write down outcomes, not a transcript: the decisions, the open questions and who is doing what. Keep bullets short and specific, and send the notes the same day. If you'd rather take part in the meeting than type, record it and let AI draft the notes.

Can I turn a recording into meeting notes automatically?

Yes. Upload the recording to Wave's free meeting minutes generator and pick "Simple notes". You get the summary, key points, decisions and next steps in this structure, ready to copy or download.
