It transcribes all of them, with the best results on clear, standard speech. Strong Quebec or West African accents, joual and regional slang are recognized less reliably than Parisian French, so skim the original transcript for misheard names or terms before relying on the translation.
The transcript is translated in context, a few dozen lines at a time, so idioms and spoken shortcuts like dropped "ne" are rendered as natural English rather than word for word. Tu and vous both become "you"; if that distinction matters, the original French is one tab away.
Choose French when you know the recording is in French. It is slightly more reliable than auto-detect on short clips, where there is less speech to identify the language from. Auto-detect is useful when you are not sure, or the file is mostly another language.
Yes. When English is the target language, the AI summary of the recording is written in English, with the main topics and any action items. You can copy it as Markdown or formatted text, or download it with the translation as a .txt file.

Your file is uploaded to temporary storage, transcribed and translated. We may then keep a private copy of the audio and the original transcript to improve Wave's speech recognition. They are never published. Please don't upload recordings you aren't comfortable sharing with us.
