How to translate Russian audio to English

  1. Upload the recording. Drag in an audio or video file: an interview, a voice message, a lecture, a family video, a meeting in another language.
  2. Pick the languages. Russian and English are already selected. Change either one if your recording needs it, or set the spoken language to auto-detect.
  3. Read, copy or download. The translation opens first, speaker by speaker with timestamps. Switch to the original transcript or the AI summary, copy the text, or download it as .txt, .srt or .vtt subtitles.

Common questions

Can I translate Telegram voice messages?

Yes. Save the voice message from Telegram Desktop (it downloads as an .ogg file) and upload it. For short messages, choose Russian as the spoken language instead of auto-detect.

How are Russian names and patronymics handled?

Names are transcribed in Cyrillic and transliterated in the English translation, with patronymics kept. Transliteration can vary (for example Yuri or Yury), so if spelling matters, match it to how the person writes their name in English.

Does it work with Ukrainian or Belarusian speakers?

Russian spoken with a Ukrainian or Belarusian accent transcribes fine. Speech in Ukrainian or Belarusian, or surzhyk mixing, is a different case: those are not among the tool's languages, so results will be unreliable.

Is the AI summary in English?

Yes. With English as the target language, the summary is written in English and lists the main topics and any action items from the Russian recording.

Is this audio translator really free?

Yes. You can translate up to 5 files per day (200MB each) free, with no account and no watermark. For unlimited recording and transcription, the Wave app has a free plan and paid plans from $80 a year or $15 a month.

What happens to my file?

Your file is uploaded to temporary storage, transcribed and translated. We may then keep a private copy of the audio and the original transcript to improve Wave's speech recognition. They are never published. Please don't upload recordings you aren't comfortable sharing with us.
