How to translate Spanish audio to English

  1. Upload the recording. Drag in an audio or video file: an interview, a voice message, a lecture, a family video, a meeting in another language.
  2. Pick the languages. Spanish and English are already selected. Change either one if your recording needs it, or set the spoken language to auto-detect.
  3. Read, copy or download. The translation opens first, speaker by speaker with timestamps. Switch to the original transcript or the AI summary, copy the text, or download it as .txt, .srt or .vtt subtitles.

Common questions

Does it handle Latin American and Castilian Spanish?

Yes. Mexican, Caribbean, Central and South American, and Castilian Spanish are all transcribed by the same model. Clear speech in any of them works well; heavy regional slang, fast overlapping speech and noisy rooms are where mistakes creep in, so check names and numbers in the original transcript.

What if the recording mixes Spanish and English?

Pick Spanish as the spoken language if most of it is Spanish. English phrases dropped into Spanish sentences usually come through, and lines that are already in English are left as they are in the translation. For a recording that switches back and forth evenly, try auto-detect.

What do people translate from Spanish to English with it?

Common uses are research and customer interviews with Spanish speakers, voice messages from relatives, Spanish-language podcast or YouTube clips, class recordings, and meetings with teams in Latin America or Spain. It is a machine translation, so it is not a substitute for a certified translator on legal or medical documents.

Can I get English subtitles for a Spanish video?

Yes. Upload the video (mp4, mov or webm), then download the translation as .srt or .vtt. Each English cue keeps the timing of the Spanish line it came from, so it lines up with the video in YouTube, Premiere, CapCut or VLC.

Is this audio translator really free?

Yes. You can translate up to 5 files per day (200MB each) free, with no account and no watermark. For unlimited recording and transcription, the Wave app has a free plan and paid plans from $80 a year or $15 a month.

What happens to my file?

Your file is uploaded to temporary storage, transcribed and translated. We may then keep a private copy of the audio and the original transcript to improve Wave's speech recognition. They are never published. Please don't upload recordings you aren't comfortable sharing with us.
