The Best Turbo AI Alternatives for Students in 2026

Turbo AI, formerly TurboLearn, records lectures and turns them into notes, flashcards, and quizzes. It is one of the most popular study apps around. People look for an alternative when the price adds up, when they want to keep and replay the audio, or when they need to record more than class.

348,728 people use Wave30 minutes free every month. No credit card.

Prices and features on this page are as of November 2026 and come from the sources listed at the bottom. Turbo AI and Coconote don’t publish a pricing page, so their figures come from app store listings and company announcements.

What Turbo AI does

Turbo AI rebranded from TurboLearn on 2025-09-30. You give it a live lecture recording, PDFs, YouTube videos, DOCX files, audio files, your own notes, and it produces notes, flashcards, quizzes, podcasts, AI chat. It runs on web, iPhone and iPad, Android, rates 4.7 on the App Store (34K ratings) and 4.7 on Google Play, and claims 10,000,000+ learners (company claim).

Its free tier covers note generation, flashcards, and quizzes; limits not published. At the 2025 rebrand, Premium was quoted from $9.99 a month billed yearly or $19.99 month to month; the App Store currently lists in-app prices from $9.99/week to $119.99/year. Paid usage caps and maximum recording length are not published.

1. Wave — for students who record more than lectures

Wave AI is an AI note taker that records lectures, but also phone calls, Zoom and Teams meetings, and anything you start from an Apple Watch or Wear OS watch. Be clear about the trade-off: Wave doesn’t make flashcards or quizzes. Its study tools are different:

  • Lecture-to-Study Guide summaries. Pick that template before class, or restyle any finished recording into it.
  • Photos of slides and whiteboards. Snap the slide while you record and Wave uses it, time-stamped, in the summary.
  • The audio stays. Replay the exact moment your professor explained something, next to a speaker-labeled transcript.
  • Ask across the semester. Search and chat across every lecture, imported PDF, and recording in one library.
  • Record from your wrist. Wave for Smart Watch records without your phone nearby.

Wave is free for 30 minutes of recording a month. Wave Pro is $15 a month or $80 a year on the web, and a discounted Student annual plan is available. See Wave for lectures.

2. Coconote — the closest like-for-like swap

Coconote does what Turbo does: record a lecture and get notes, transcripts, AI chat, quizzes, flashcards, study games, AI podcasts. It supports 100+ languages and has an Apple Watch app. Quizlet acquired Coconote in February 2026, which is also the answer if you were looking for a Quizlet lecture recorder. Read our Coconote review.

3. Otter.ai — best known, but built for meetings

Otter’s free plan gives 300 min/month with a 30 min cap per conversation, which is shorter than most lectures. It offers students 20% off Pro. No flashcards or quizzes.

4. Notta — cheap transcription, many languages

Notta is strong on multilingual transcription. Its free plan is 120 min/month, 3 min per recording; Pro is $8.17 a month billed yearly. It is a transcription tool more than a study app.

5. Knowt — flashcards first

Knowt is a free flashcard and study platform. Its AI lecture recording summarizer on the paid Ultra plan, at $7.99 a month billed yearly or $24.99 month to month. A good fit if quizzing yourself matters more than the recording.

6. Apple Notes — free on iPhone

On iPhone 12 and later, Notes can record audio with a live transcript. Summaries need Apple Intelligence (iPhone 15 Pro and later). Free, but iPhone only, and no flashcards or cross-lecture chat.

7. Google Recorder — free on Pixel

Google’s Recorder transcribes on Pixel phones only, with summaries on Pixel 8 and later, recordings of 5 minutes to 1 hour. Excellent if you own a Pixel; unavailable if you don’t.
